" It is such a potent image,
practical because lives depend on it, and at the same time, utterly
this lonely building at the cusp
of land and sea, sending out light into the darkness."
|I had my first view of a lighthouse when Ron and I went to St Augustine for our 5th anniversary. We caught a glimpse
tops of the trees just as dusk was falling. It was an awesome sight.
The next day we returned to climb the 219 steps to the top of the tower
and I was hooked.
In 2005, Ron and I decided to try to visit
all the Florida lighthouses. Our trips have taken us to some
of the most beautiful places in Florida – the Big Bend and
the Dry Tortugas, Gasparilla Island, Pompano Beach, the Canaveral
National Seashore. And we still have more to see.
